Later this hour going to be talking about the buffalo mayoral race in May be the one guest I can bring in that sort of up a bridge between those two topics can touch a little bit on both. Is professor Kevin Hardwick political science professor kinesis college also Republican member of the Erie county legislature. Mayoral race in just a manager to Kevin the first let's delve into this whole trumped Twitter wiretapping thing. Is it damaging to him is it just another case of people kind of rolling their eyes and saying how another trumped week. Or is there substance there that you think could have implications down the road. Well I think it's damaging to him in that it focuses. Attention on what he doesn't want to focus to be which is this whole Russian connection. I mean the democratic playbook this morning it's obvious from looking at the interviews on the morning shows is that they're calling this a distraction. They're saying that from tweeted this because he wanted to get attention off the Russian question. If if that's the case that it really you know of this strategy fell short because all it's doing is reflecting attention back at it because of that. If if there was a lawyer cap that was to find out if the Russians were calling the trump people that are certainly trump himself that is is is that staff. So I think that is that it's it's not a good day really is a shame because it started off as a decent week the best week for trump I mean that's each. On Tuesday night. For him was a home run he got he's got great reviews. From everyone. In the that they later the Washington Post it was there was an article linking is attorney general Jeff Sessions. To the Russians contact city said. Before a senate committee that he did they have although that question is did he really say that your didn't you'd have to you'd have to Parse what he said but regardless it throws attention. On this and it is it bogs down his agenda and its it's now where he wanted to be. If you can argue that there are a lot of folks that voted for trumped the don't like President Obama. Isn't this kind of like his media bashing isn't it reinforcing certain ideas to the base and therefore helpful to him theoretically. Yeah I I think that's. That's what the Democrats are putting out there that that was a distraction for that reason but again if this substance was something else that would be that would be great but the substance. Of the wiretap would be of course the Russians. And that's where you want it to visit diversion that's where you might divert attention from. Because that's really did it that's really damaging the president right now. And it's it's stopping him from going forward with major parts of his agenda and it really threaten his whole presidency. Apart from may be having ranks pretty Visser says Sean Spicer a takeaways Twitter. How how do we get beyond the Russian issue do you think a special prosecutor. Would be warranted just put the issue to bed. Boy. Someone's gonna have to investigated its historic thing that you cannot ignore I mean you would like to ignore it if you're. Trumped. Becker if you are Republicans certainly you you don't look forward to it. But he gets the point where you can no longer you no longer ignore so he hopes to move forward with it as quickly as possible. Find it there's nothing there and and move on that's best case scenario I think. If you're trump supporter. And then you see what trump can do in and realize this this is this is at the beginning of the president's first term in office. The first two years of his presidency is so important. That portion of his presidency before the midterm elections. Because after the midterm elections. Normally the president loses seats in congress does not have ever as much power as he did in those initial days. It's that time when Reagan did reaganomics. It's time would Obama did obamacare. Both sides of the political spectrum there. This is a critical time in the clock is ticking and we're bogged down in this Russian mess you want to take you wanted dispense with the this quickly is. Advice for the president then move ahead on economic issues ignore Russia. I think so you know there you go back to the things he talked about in this speech. I mean infrastructure everybody knows severe restart about infrastructure for decades. That's something that a lot a lot of Democrats. On wanna move forward with. Certainly Republicans want to move forward with a you know put the focus on that go forward. And and I think years you know I think you're on solid ground. You know but again you've got to dispense with this distraction. It's interesting you know that at the on Wednesday after that speech. The morning news program spoke with a both congressman Higgins and congressman Collins a would replace those and abuse rep for Meet the Press coming up at twelve noon. Both of them said the infrastructure portion is clearly something that Republicans and Democrats can get on the same page on we'll have that interview went a little bit. If anything that's an area where trump can just move ahead as he does have it seems bipartisan support. He he should have bipartisan support and again. Democrats. Tuesday night at the speech. Would have had a difficult time neck clapping for that one sure you know they didn't clap for a lot of things and they were they were big felt very awkward. That was the high point of the presence we no question about it. It's unfortunate for him that the next morning the next day the last imposed himself was as. Sessions story and it is it's an that it threw everything off the tracks. Hey is like I've got your Kevin giving my segue into the next topic talk a little bit about the buffalo mayor race Byron brown obviously is the incumbent and he is declared he's running. County legislator Betty Jean grant has said she's possibly going to round. Terrence Robinson a member of the buffalo say planning board has said he's may be looking at it. And then later this afternoon controller mark Schroeder announces that he's running how do you see this all playing out especially with. One may be too African American candidates in the race against Byron brown. Devils certainly the certainly. Byron brown would like to have a unified African American community. Backing him in the democratic primary. Yes for instance of Betty Jean grant. A jump in as CCD cheap money. That really you know that there really is good cut into his support there and she's she's very popular in popular public reasons. But of course she would have been difficult to estimate if she were to do they actually have to give up her seat in the Erie county legislature. Because the county legislature is up. That this you're also. And that's for her almost a sure win so. In and you know that she is the for weeding. The mayoral primary are. Relatively slim. So I you know unless there's unless there's something in it for someplace else. I don't see Betty Jean doing that but again I'm better and better political advisors so we'll see what happens. Is the mayor's support strong enough. That he can still gather enough votes from other areas if the African American community is split. I think that's going to be the question everybody's going to be asking themselves. I think it will could be. But but I don't know I think I think certainly the mayor. And certainly mark Schroeder would have a better handle on that because they're out there in the community. They're talking to people and obviously they're also doing some polling of their own. Chart and other part of the equation if we look back at the Jimmy Griffin scenario he won with they split African American vote. And support of the conservatives. Kevin thanks for joining us coming up next we're gonna talk to Erie county Conservative Party chairman Ralph Rico about all of this stay with us more to come. It's hard line on news radio 930 WB and buffalo.
